Transportation jobs are heavily relied on for the hauling of items across the country and to other nations. A noticeable facet on America’s highways, truck drivers are important because they can deliver goods door-to-door and are always used at some point in the transportation process. Air transportation careers require irregular hours work due to daytime and nighttime flights but senior pilots are the highest aid workers in the nation. Water transportation jobs carry very large amounts of cargo long distances and between nations. 

Transportation careers have become less physically demanding because of better accommodations. Ergonomically designed seating areas, better ventilation in the cabin, and more comfortable seats make this a better career for older job seekers. Also, there are different types of qualifications for the different jobs that must be met. An example would be the commercial driver’s license. Questions about the specific responsibilities of the position should still be asked to the employer to determine if this is the right career field. 

The transportation services industry is expected to remain consistent with job opportunities. Transportation employment is expected to increase at a rate close to the national average for all occupations. As the economy gains strength, new transportation jobs, especially truck driving jobs, more opportunities will become available. Positions will also become available due to the workers that will leave the transportation industry to transfer to other fields of work, retire, or leave for other reasons. Competition will continue amongst the highest paying positions and positions with the major transport companies.
